What this portfolio is¶

This portfolio documents my development as a GIS professional through practical evidence.

It shows:

What I know → what I can do → how I demonstrated it → how I verified it → what the evidence supports.

The portfolio is organised around 13 core GIS competencies. Each competency covers a practical area of GIS work and explains the capability shown by the available evidence.

Why an evidence-based portfolio¶

A list of software, courses, or completed exercises does not, by itself, show what I can do.

For this reason, the portfolio separates the professional-facing competency pages from the detailed technical evidence.

The competency pages explain the capability demonstrated. The technical evidence provides the supporting material, such as:

• GIS workflows
• commands and queries
• data inspection
• processing results
• maps and screenshots
• database results
• supporting HTML
• technical explanations

This lets the reader see both the professional capability and the evidence behind it.

How the evidence is evaluated¶

The portfolio does not treat every activity as proof of professional competence.

The evidence is used to distinguish between:

• demonstrated hands-on capability;
• knowledge demonstrated through theory;
• partially demonstrated capability;
• capability not yet demonstrated.

Limitations, incomplete work, errors, or gaps in the evidence are stated clearly, not hidden.

The goal is to keep the claims in the portfolio matched to the evidence available.

Progressive publication¶

The portfolio is developed and published step by step.

A competency is added to the public portfolio once its supporting work is complete and reviewed. This means the published portfolio reflects the capabilities demonstrated at that stage of development.

The 13-competency framework stays visible even while some competencies are still pending. This lets the portfolio grow over time without changing its overall structure.

Portfolio structure¶

The portfolio has two main layers.

Competencies¶

The Competencies section is the professional-facing layer. It explains what I am able to do in each competency and what the available evidence supports.

Technical Evidence¶

The Technical Evidence section contains the detailed material that supports the competency pages.

This separation keeps the main portfolio focused on professional capability, while still allowing the technical work to be checked in detail.

Evidence boundaries¶

This portfolio does not claim that every GIS or software technology I have studied or used elsewhere has been demonstrated here.

Claims about practical capability are based only on the evidence included in this portfolio.

My previous professional experience and broader technical background give context, but they are not treated as evidence for a competency unless shown directly in the work.

Intended use¶

It is a working professional record and will grow as more competencies are completed and verified.
