Professional profile¶
Ivan Arias¶
Email: arias.ivan@gmail.com · Full CV: resume.hcoco1.com
I am a geological engineer transitioning into GIS, currently building demonstrated capability in spatial data handling (see Competency overview). Geospatial software development is a longer-term direction, not yet evidenced in this portfolio.
My professional background includes 13 years in petroleum geology, with experience in sedimentology, stratigraphy, geological mapping, and spatial data. This background gave me experience working with geological and spatial information in technical environments.
Since 2022, I have been retraining through part-time study and personal projects, with my current focus on GIS and spatial data workflows. Broader software-development skills are part of this retraining but are not yet demonstrated within this competency portfolio specifically.
This competency portfolio provides evidence of that transition through practical GIS work. It is separate from my general CV: the capabilities presented here are based on the work and evidence included in this portfolio.
Professional direction¶
I am targeting entry-level and junior GIS roles, including:
- GIS Technician
- GIS Analyst
- Geospatial Data roles
- Web Mapping roles
- Junior GIS development roles
My aim is to combine my previous experience working with geological and spatial information with developing skills in modern GIS and geospatial technologies.
Professional background¶
From 2005 to 2018, I worked at PDVSA in Venezuela and Ecuador as a sedimentologist and stratigrapher. My work included stratigraphy, geological mapping, spatial-data work, and reservoir characterisation.
This experience is relevant background for my transition into GIS, but it is not treated as evidence for the competencies in this portfolio unless the specific capability is demonstrated by the project evidence.
Current development¶
Since 2022, I have been retraining part-time, moving from a petroleum-geology background toward GIS and spatial data workflows. Software-development skills are part of that retraining, but this portfolio only claims the specific GIS capabilities demonstrated by its evidence.
This portfolio focuses specifically on the GIS competencies I can demonstrate through the evidence collected here. Additional competency work will be added as it is completed and verified.
Evidence boundary¶
This profile provides professional context. It does not claim that every technology, skill, or area of previous experience listed in my CV has been demonstrated in this competency portfolio.
The competency pages are the primary source for assessing the practical GIS capabilities demonstrated by this project.
